The Gardens Hotel used to be a Bahamas style mansion that was built in the 19th century. It was purchased by a woman named Peggy Mills whose dream it was to make the property into botanical gardens. She purchased the surrounding land and demolished 13 buildings to create the grounds, leaving only the gate house and her residence standing. Peggy Mills passed away in 1979, but her dream for was carried on by the subsequent owners who turned the property into a boutique hotel featuring incredible gardens. The design and accommodations here are lush and tropical. They are quaint yet modern, and feature a heated pool, aviary, gift shop, room service and much more.

Another boutique hotel in Key West is the Azul. This hotel is adults only and is quite small. You get the feel of a bed and breakfast as this hotel is also in an old mansion. It is the perfect place to spend a romantic getaway. Like the Gardens, the furnishings and decor here are tropical in theme. The Azul features a swimming pool, beautifully designed rooms, top notch service and high speed Internet access. It's like stepping back in time while still retaining the modern conveniences you need.

Some Key West boutique hotels offer spa services. One example is the Ocean Key Resort and Spa. This hotel is one of the larger boutique hotels because it has 100 rooms. They feature quaint hand painted furniture and bright, cheerful decor. The resort offers a swimming pool, concierge services, fine restaurants, room service, and of course a wide array of pampering spa services. When you stay at the Ocean Key Resort and Spa you are close to the action yet get to enjoy top notch service usually reserved for smaller luxury hotels.
